3:04 An important question that we can ask ourselves, “Why are you still leading?” 

This pandemic has forced us to get to the most important reasons for why we are doing things.

One word that keeps coming up is essential. What are essential businesses, functions, trips, roles, etc.?

In the same way, we need to find the essential reasons, the critical reasons for doing what we’re doing.

7:10 There are primary and secondary reasons for why we lead.

• Some secondary reasons can be:
  • It’s emotionally rewarding to see the effects of leading.
  • The feeling of success or progress (getting things done).
  • The validation or approval of other people.

These are good reasons. But what if they’re gone? What if it’s not emotionally rewarding? What if it doesn’t feel like a success? What if you don’t get validation?

10:35 There’s one main reason that keeps us going even when things are not working out well: because you don’t have a choice.

“This is how God made me. This is who He made me to be. I gotta keep doing what God has called me to do.”

In other words, it’s that sense of calling, specific to you which is why you’re doing what you are doing.

16:53 Everyday there is that temptation to wake up, neglect the call of God in your life––to stop loving, to stop serving, to stop leading and to just do what everybody else does. And yet there’s that warning in your heart against delay, against the way that seems easier, against the refusal of the burden and of the call that is on you. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. -Philippians 3:12 

In NIV, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”

That’s why you are still leading, because you don’t have a choice, because you are called to.
